Membership

Members of the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Delta Omega are selected from eligible students, faculty, and alumni of the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions. In addition, one honorary member may be elected each year.

Eligibility

Students are eligible to be elected as members of Beta Upsilon if they possess a bachelor’s degree, or a degree equivalent to or higher than the bachelor’s degree, are in the last grading period leading to an advanced degree in public health, and shall intend, so far as can be ascertained, to follow a career in public health. Students who are academically in the top 50% of their class of graduates for the academic election year are considered, and no more than 10% of those students may be elected. In addition to academic excellence, student members must have demonstrated real or potential qualities of leadership and a commitment to public health service in the university and/or larger community.

Faculty members are eligible to be elected if they are full-time faculty and are considered based upon their outstanding performance in public health scholarship, teaching, research, and quality of publications. The total number of faculty members elected in any one year may not exceed 3% of the full-time faculty.

Alumni whose work in the practice of public health serves as a model for future graduates of the school may also be inducted. Up to 5 alumni members may be inducted each year.

One Honorary Member of our chapter may be selected each year. This membership is conferred only upon persons possessing exceptional qualifications, who have attained meritorious distinction in the field of public health.
